Big Trip Logo Contest
The Big Trip is a big deal for us and we need an amazing logo, so we thought it would be a great opportunity for our first design contest. We’ll choose the winner based on the design we like best. The winner will receive a new AT&T Palm Centro.
Design Parameters
We’re looking for a bold font that suggests the “BIGNESS” of the trip. It should say, The BIG Trip. A tag line of 50 States in 50 Weeks? is optional. Better than the tag line would be the URL, www.BigTrip.tv.
The GeekBrief.TV logo can be incorporated, but we don’t want it to be the major focus of the Big Trip logo.
We really like the idea of having part of a U.S.A. roadmap as a part of the design.
The logo needs to have a graphic of an RV that isn’t identifiable as a specific brand.
The size of the logo should be 800×800 or larger so it can be used for video.
Entries should be submitted in a .PNG format to contest@bigtrip.tv. The winner will be chosen on March 15.
Here are links to GBTV assets you are welcome to use:
GeekBrief.TV Road Trip Logo (PNG)
GeekBrief.TV Logo (PNG)
GeekBrief.TV Logo (PSD)
Current BigTrip.TV Banner (PNG)
Current BigTrip.TV Banner (PSD)

I have no Photoshop skillz, but everytime I hear about the trip I picture this.
Comment by Joe on 21 February 2008:
Hi Cali,
Those assets would be more useful if they were in layered PSD format. Is that a possibility?
Joe
Comment by Tom on 21 February 2008:
Joe of course it would have to be done with layers for it to work and look good. What i believe is being said is that they are looking for the final product to be saved and sent in as a PNG.
PSD is only good for opening with photoshop where as PNG is a high quality image fomat that can be used and is accepted almost anywhere.
I will most likely give this a shot if i come across any time.
Comment by Cali on 21 February 2008:
@Joe: Sure, we’ll upload them in PSD format. I’ll post here when I have new links.
Comment by Cali on 21 February 2008:
PSD links are posted above.
Comment by Tom on 21 February 2008:
ohh i missed what he was saying …i feel foolish now >_<
Comment by Cali on 21 February 2008:
Haha! No need, Tom. ;)
Comment by Brandon on 21 February 2008:
Just curious exactly what you plan on using this logo for: painted on the side of the RV? just for videos? a banner? Also, I have an idea that does not incorporate an RV…are you set on having an RV in it?
Comment by Neal on 21 February 2008:
@Brandon, show us what you’ve got, RV or not.
Comment by Tim on 21 February 2008:
I’m not even GOING on this trip and i’m excited! :-) It is going to be so much fun for you guys!

Hello,
Just a few ideas.
#1. Are you on a “Journey” or just on a “rush” to get there?
Think about taking your time. You are young; you have time, use it well.
Do not make it a “must” that you have to do the states in “only” 50 weeks.
The journey loses something and becomes a schedule, a deadline, a race.
Leave the ending time of the journey un”stated”. (pun)
Instead, muse on the journey.
My Zen friends would say to me that:
The journey (by itself) is often more important than anything else.
The journey (by itself) is often more important than the destination.
The journey (by itself) is often more important than the finish line, finish time.
What you do on the journey is often more important than anything else.
What you did on the journey is often more important than anything else.
#2. Write out a list of 5 or 10 things you want to do during the journey.
Meet viewers in each state? Have a show in every state?
Meet other RV’ers? (John Madden, who does not fly)
Meet other podcasters? (make a list)
Meet Movers and Shakers in the podcast world?
Try to have a show in at least one of every available format possible?
See every _____ (major city, national park, zoo, pod center, school?)
(No! Starbuck sand McDonalds do not count)
Try to meet the most interesting and innovative people (kids?) in podcasting.
3A. I CAN NOT participate in “The Big Trip (TBT) contest!
I deeply wanted to participate in “The Big Trip (TBT) contest.
By my participating, it would be like me sending you guys a combination Valentines Day card,
a “Forget Me Not” card and a have a “happy trip” communiqué all at once!
I read the early posts of the contest and what you want.
As an novice to the Internet and a never-user of photo-shop, it is all over my head!
I was going to cut a map out of a book, paste some nice words on it, scan it in my little Dell 920a printer and send it to you.
Maybe I would not win…
but by sending you a card or entry,
it would be as if I were sharing the adventure with you and wishing you the best of luck.
With the present “rules” in effect, I am denied the wonderful opportunity to share.
#3B. Please change the rules for the contest.
Change the “rules” to open concepts.
Tell the readers that they can submit anything!
Tell the readers that you originally had some specific ideas of what you wanted (States, RV, The Big Trip (TBT), but those were “just” your ideas, your concepts.
NOW you want to see what their concepts are.
NOW make the contest open to all ideas.
Tell the readers, that after careful consideration,
Now the rules of the contest are now wide open.
Make it more fun!
By the way, you can always change the rules to “suggestions”.
By the way, you can still pick the design you want,
but please give all your friends and admirers a chance to participate.

PS
Forgive me for being too personal, but my time is short.
I would feel bad if I did not wish you the best and most important thing in life.
I am an grumpy ol man, a grandfather to 3 grandchildren.
As I get near the end of my own journey,
I realize that what you do ON the journey is often more important.
In the spirit of friendship and elderly advice, may I suggest that you consider the following item?
(maybe, just lightly pencil it in?)
“Spend ‘alone time’ with Neal and make a baby”.
Love to you all.
Pat

Cali, As a lighting designer that has toured the states with bands since the 1980’s I have been to all 50 states. If you need any tips for living out of a tour bus or on the road let me know.
Comment by Wilco on 24 February 2008:
Ok, unlike Pat, i’m not going to tell you to make babies.
But i do want to tell you that i mailed my entry for the contest.
Cheers!
Comment by Ravaliya on 25 February 2008:

SWARA SESSIONS SHOW 2 released TODAY Monday 25th Feb 2008!
Comment by Cali on 25 February 2008:
@Ravaliya: We’d love to see what you come up with! The contest is open to everyone, BUT I don’t know that the phone that the winner gets will work outside the US.
Comment by Wilco on 27 February 2008:
Then i will donate the phone to you, Cali. ;-)
Comment by Andrew Baker on 5 March 2008:
Can the graphic be animated? You also mention using it for the show… Would this be like the first thing you see when opening a window to watch the show?
Comment by Neal on 7 March 2008:
@Andrew Baker - The logo for the contest should be static. It will appear on the show opening of Tales from the Big Trip and on this Web site.
If you produce graphics in Motion or After Effects and want to submit something for that, we would love to see it
